Benzoin of Sumatra Resin || Styrax benzoin || Incense

The Benzoin resin comes from the Styrax benzoin tree a mighty 30m tree found in Sumatra, in the Islands of Indonesia. Resins are highly refined medicines, the blood and waters of the plant. Resins tend to work with the more subtle fields that permeate all things. The honey of a bee hive, the golden ore, the bloods of our bodies. Life force medicine.

Benzoin is believed to have antiseptic, stimulant, expectorant and diuretic properties and is included in some therapies for such purposes. It is also known as Gum Benzoin which is a major component in incenses used in Catholic ceremonies & Orthodox Christian societies. Sumatran benzoin contains cinnamic acid in addition to benzoic acid.

There is also a Benzoin from Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam known as Siam benzoin, however Sumatran Benzoin is thought to be better quality. The trees grow in cool, mountainous regions where the sap is harvested and dried for 6 months to purify it before it is ready to be used as resin.

The aroma is sweet, soothing, balsamic, and vanilla-like.

This product is 100% pure, organic resin pieces.

Please store in a cool dark place, out of sunlight, heat & air exposure.
