Copal is the tree Copaifera officinalis a Burseraceae plant whose use dates back to ancient times throughout Meso-America used as a sacred tool and incense especially during sweat lodge and mushroom ceremonies. It has a sweet and fruity fragrance when burned.

We suggest the easiest way to burn resin pieces to produce incense, is to place them on hot charcoal, either straight from the fire, or using charcoal made for this purpose. Crushing the resin pieces with a mortar and pestle will help it burn better and create more incense.
