Diviners’s Sage || Shepherdess Tincture || Salvia spp.

This plant of the Lamiaceae species, goes by many names, including Diviner's sage, Hierba Maria, Herb of the Shepherdess, or Ska Maria Pastora.

 

It is a unique visionary plant endemic to the Sierra Madre mountains in Oaxaca, Mexico,  and has a long history of use by the Mazatec peoples of the region for healing, insight, and connection with the divine.

 

Sometimes regarded as a plant teacher with feminine qualities, it is considered to produce powerful and unique visionary effects, and it's constituents and their physiological effects are unusual, binding to the kappa-opiod receptors. 

 

It is a bitter herb that works on the heart and pain receptors. It’s affects can be sedating and dream visionary in higher doses, and in smaller doses it awakens the heart and brings spirit alive in the body.
